Nanumba North Municipal Assembly holds annual sitting to address key development issues

The Nanumba North Municipal Assembly has held its Annual Sitting, convening all Assembly Members to deliberate on pressing development challenges and opportunities aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

The meeting examined critical sectors including electricity supply, health services, security, road infrastructure, and progress on ongoing and proposed development projects.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening local governance, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring better living standards for the people of Nanumba North through coordinated planning and responsive leadership.

In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Abdul-Somed Hamza, encouraged Assembly Members to remain dedicated to their responsibilities, noting that the role demands commitment, hard work, and patience as citizens have high expectations of their leaders.

He reminded members that the Assembly is a nonpartisan institution and urged them to uphold this principle in all deliberations and decision-making processes.

The Deputy Chief Administration Manager of the Municipal Health Directorate, Sugri Sulemana Subri, expressed concern over the shortage of midwives in the municipality. He appealed to government and the Assembly to prioritize the posting of additional midwives to ensure effective and safe maternal and child health services.

Speaking on behalf of NEDCo/VRA, the Operations Manager of the Bimbilla Branch, Mr. Selorm, advised residents to seek assistance strictly from accredited staff to avoid misinformation or fraudulent activities.

He explained that the shift from postpaid to prepaid metering is part of a national policy designed to improve efficiency. He acknowledged concerns over accumulated debts but assured residents that flexible payment arrangements have been introduced to help ease the transition.

On education, the Municipal Deputy Director for Planning and Statistics at GES, Alhaji Issah Damba, cautioned head teachers against imposing unauthorized fees on students.

He emphasized that the government covers tuition, examination fees, and other key expenses, and any additional charges must be approved by the School Management Committee (SMC) and appropriate authorities.

The sitting concluded with a renewed commitment from Assembly Members and stakeholders to work collaboratively to address developmental needs and advance the progress of the Nanumba North Municipality.
