Ayiem Community celebrates new Police Station, residential quarters

The people of Ayiem in the Mpohor Fiase District of the Western Region have marked a significant milestone with the official commissioning of a new police station and residential quarters for officers.

The ceremony brought together chiefs, district authorities, security officials, and community members to celebrate a project expected to enhance safety and support local development.

Construction of the police station began under the leadership of former District Chief Executive, Hon. Ignatius Asaah Mensah, funded through the District Assembly Common Fund. Despite changes in leadership, the project continued seamlessly, with current DCE Hon. Sophia Aubyn overseeing its completion, demonstrating a sustained commitment to community security beyond administrative transitions.

A standout feature of the project was the personal contribution of the divisional chief of Ayiem, Nana Okofo Akye Kwasi IV, who financed and constructed the police quarters to provide comfortable housing for officers. His investment is being hailed as a critical step toward improving law enforcement capacity and a demonstration of responsible traditional leadership.

Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Frank Abrokwah, commended the district and traditional authorities for prioritizing the welfare of the police. He noted that well-equipped facilities enhance officers’ effectiveness, enabling them to protect lives and property more efficiently. He also urged the community to collaborate with the police to maintain peace and order.

Speaking at the ceremony, DCE Hon. Sophia Aubyn described the project as a major achievement for the district. She expressed gratitude to her predecessor for initiating the project and praised the divisional chief for his exceptional support. Hon. Aubyn assured residents that her office will continue to work closely with the police to ensure the area remains safe for both social and economic activities.

Nana Okofo Akye Kwasi IV emphasized that peace and security are collective responsibilities. He explained that constructing the police quarters ensures officers have suitable accommodation to perform their duties effectively and called on residents to support and safeguard the new facilities.

The commissioning of the Ayiem Police Station and residential quarters represents a significant advancement for community policing in the Mpohor Fiase District. With the facility now operational, residents are optimistic that crime rates will decline and that collaboration between the police and the community will strengthen.
