Kumasi magazine car dealers block roads in protest over poor road conditions
Car dealers at Suame Anomangye Post Office in the Kumasi Magazine enclave have staged a massive protest, blocking all major roads in the area.
The action comes in response to what they describe as unbearable road conditions caused by the ongoing construction of the four-tier Suame Interchange.
According to the dealers, the delayed construction and continuous excavation works have left the roads in a deplorable state. Deep potholes, uneven surfaces, and excessive dust have made movement difficult for both traders and customers.
The protesters say the situation is not only disrupting business activities but also destroying their goods. Many dealers complained that the thick dust settling on their vehicles is reducing their market value, leading to financial losses.
They are demanding immediate intervention from authorities, especially the Ministry of Roads and Highways, to repair the damaged roads and provide dust control measures while construction continues.
The demonstration, which saw tyres burnt and roads completely blocked, caused major traffic disruptions in Suame and the surrounding areas. The car dealers insist the protest will continue until their concerns are addressed, urging government to prioritize their welfare as construction progresses.
Local authorities are yet to issue an official response.
