Ghana, Qatar forge stronger security and economic ties
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced significant new commitments between Ghana and Qatar following high-level bilateral talks in Doha.
In a statement, Minister Ablakwa expressed gratitude to Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, and the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, describing the discussions as “profoundly productive and mutually beneficial.”
He revealed that both countries had agreed to strengthen cooperation across multiple areas, including security. “Ghana and Qatar will deepen our security cooperation, collaborate in global conflict resolution initiatives, and promote enhanced alliances between our armed forces,” he said.
The talks also produced agreements to expand economic relations. “We have agreed to facilitate the establishment of the first Ghana-Qatar Chamber of Commerce to bolster trade relations and create new opportunities for businesses from both countries,” Minister Ablakwa added.
