Man seen in viral video beating wife arrested, siblings also in custody for attacking witness — Police

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man caught in a viral social media video allegedly assaulting his wife at their residence in Ofankor, Ga East Municipality, Greater Accra Region.

The incident, recorded and shared by a tenant, drew widespread condemnation and calls for justice.

In a statement on Tuesday, November 18, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said the suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, was apprehended at the family home on Monday, November 17.

“The suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, was arrested on Monday, November 17t 2025, at the family residence.

“Following his arrest, two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, who attempted to attack a female tenant suspected of recording and circulating the video, were also arrested, and the tenant was rescued to ensure her safety,” the statement said.

The police added that efforts are ongoing to locate and protect the wife, who had fled before officers arrived.

“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law,” the statement noted.
