Three injured in stampede during Ghana Armed Forces recruitment at Baba Yara Stadium
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed that three people were injured in a stampede during the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
According to NADMO officials, two of the injured applicants were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), while the third was taken to the Emina Hospital for medical care.
The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of NADMO, Prince Ahmed, explained in an interview with Kumasi FM’s Elisha Adarkwah that the incident occurred when the large crowd at the venue surged toward the queue, causing panic and congestion.
He said authorities have since implemented measures to improve crowd control and ensure the safety of applicants during the exercise.
