Committee on August 6 helicopter crash submits report to President Mahama
Acting Minister for Defence and Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has led the committee that investigated the August 6 military helicopter crash to present its findings to President John Dramani Mahama at a meeting of the National Security Council.
The tragic incident occurred when a Ghana Air Force helicopter carrying military personnel on a routine mission crashed near Bonsokrom in the Western Region, claiming several lives and leaving others injured. The aircraft was reportedly en route from Takoradi to Akyem Oda when it went down due to what initial reports suggested could have been severe weather conditions and possible technical failure.
Following the crash, President Mahama directed the establishment of a high-level committee chaired by Mr. Forson to conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The committee was tasked with determining the exact cause of the crash and recommending measures to enhance aviation safety and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
After weeks of investigation, the committee has completed its work and submitted its report to the President. Official sources say the full findings will be made public on Tuesday.
