GJA, FDA strengthen partnership to promote public health and safety in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), led by its Regional Chairman, Mr Kofi Adu Domfeh, has paid a familiarisation visit to the Ashanti Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

The visit aimed to deepen collaboration between the two institutions in promoting public health and safety.

The GJA delegation was received by the Regional Head of the FDA, Mr Nathaniel Nana Kwabena Nkrumah, who commended the Association for its continued support of the Authority’s work under the leadership of Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Manso Opuni, Chief Executive Officer of the FDA.

Mr Nkrumah stressed the crucial role of the media in safeguarding public health by ensuring that accurate and timely information reaches the public. “We are truly grateful for the GJA’s partnership and look forward to strengthening our collaboration to ensure the health and safety of every Ghanaian,” he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to building a stronger relationship with the media, describing it as vital to the Authority’s mission of protecting consumers from unsafe products and promoting regulatory compliance.

For his part, Mr Kofi Adu Domfeh reiterated the GJA’s readiness to support the FDA’s public education and sensitisation initiatives. “The GJA in the Ashanti Region will continue to cooperate with the FDA to raise public awareness about its mandate. Together, we can help the public make informed choices and advance the Authority’s objectives,” he said.

Mr Domfeh also extended an invitation to Mr Nkrumah and his team to attend the upcoming 2025 Ashanti Regional GJA Awards, which will celebrate excellence in journalism and strengthen partnerships between the media and key institutions.

Both organisations expressed optimism about future collaborations aimed at enhancing public awareness, ensuring consumer safety, and promoting a stronger culture of health and regulatory responsibility in the region.
