Ho Central MP pledges support for rape victims, champions development projects

The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Hon. Edem Kofi Richmond Kpotosu, has pledged to support victims of sexual assault in his constituency to ensure they receive justice and the care they deserve.

Speaking at a public hearing and town hall meeting on November 3, 2025, Hon. Kpotosu announced plans to collaborate with the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) to allocate GH¢80,000 annually from next year. The funds will be used to pay hospitals and doctors to process medical reports for rape and defilement victims, a crucial requirement for prosecuting offenders.

He explained that many victims are unable to pursue justice because they cannot afford medical examinations and reports, which are essential for the police and prosecutors to build cases. “Many young girls suffer from rape and defilement, but when they get to the hospital, it becomes difficult to get doctors to sign their police reports. Without that, prosecutors cannot proceed with the case because that is the authority they rely on. Since I learned about this, I have decided to work with DOVVSU to handle those payments. Starting next year, I will make available GH¢80,000 for that purpose. If the entire amount is not used, the remainder will go into advocacy and awareness campaigns,” he said.

Hon. Kpotosu reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents, saying, “I am for you, and you are for me.” He called for unity and collective effort toward the development of the constituency.

The MP also assured residents that the construction of a new Municipal Education Office will soon be completed. He revealed that he had secured land for the project and has been engaging the Deputy Minister for Finance to ensure the timely release of funds.

As a member of Parliament’s Economic and Development Committee, Hon. Kpotosu disclosed that discussions are ongoing to establish National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) desk officers in every district assembly. The move, he said, aims to strengthen planning and development at the local level and reduce the government’s reliance on borrowing to fund the national budget.

He further noted that work is progressing steadily on the 20-seater KVIP toilet facility and the Municipal Education Office. According to him, engagements are underway with the Deputy Minister for Finance and other relevant institutions to ensure their completion, expressing optimism that several projects will advance significantly next year.

On environmental protection, Hon. Kpotosu urged the public to take proactive steps to combat climate change. He said greenhouse gas emissions were altering weather patterns and encouraged residents to plant trees and adopt modern greening methods, such as container or sack planting, to improve their surroundings.

He also announced plans to establish a new school at Fulanikorfe, a suburb of Ho, using part of his Common Fund. He has tasked the Assembly Member to make land available for the project, which has already received approval from the Planning Officer. The initiative aims to provide children in the area with better access to education and foster local development.

Hon. Kpotosu concluded by stressing the importance of honesty and integrity in politics. He cautioned constituents against politicians who distort the truth and advised them to ask critical questions—“why, what, how, and when”—to better understand the motives and promises of those who seek their votes.
