Transparency International Ghana holds 13th Annual Membership Meeting

Transparency International Ghana (TI-Ghana), formerly known as the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), has announced plans to review its activities for 2024/2025 and strengthen strategies to combat corruption, enhance integrity systems, and prevent criminal practices in 2026.

As the Ghana chapter of Transparency International (TI) — the world’s leading civil society movement against corruption — TI-Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to building a corruption-free society where individuals and institutions operate with transparency, accountability, and integrity.

Speaking at the 2025 Annual Meeting, the Executive Director of TI-Ghana, Mrs. Mary Awelana Addah, said the organisation will continue to roll out advocacy and sensitisation programmes in 2026 to promote good governance across all sectors. “We will deepen our partnerships with government, businesses, and civil society while actively engaging citizens to ensure transparency and accountability in everyday life,” she said in an interview with Modern Ghana News.

Mrs. Addah noted that 2024 marked a historic milestone for the organisation as it celebrated 25 years of collective action against corruption. The anniversary, she said, provided an opportunity to reflect on TI-Ghana’s journey, honour its pioneers, and renew its mission to uphold integrity.

“In that same year, we rebranded from Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) to Transparency International Ghana (TI-Ghana), a move that firmly aligns our identity with the global Transparency International network and underscores our dedication to transparency and accountability,” she stated.

According to her, TI-Ghana has continued investing in grooming the next generation of integrity leaders through structured internship and mentorship programmes in partnership with institutions such as the Palm Institute, the Department of Social Work at the University of Ghana, and the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Centre.

Mrs. Addah highlighted that TI-Ghana’s strategic focus aligns with both Ghana’s governance challenges and global anti-corruption standards. Its six key pillars include education against corruption, advocacy for systemic reform, research-driven interventions, and community-led accountability mechanisms.

She added that TI-Ghana will intensify advocacy for legal and policy reforms, strengthen collaborations with the private sector, civil society, faith-based groups, and traditional authorities, and expand Social Auditing Clubs (SACs) to empower citizens to demand accountability.

“TI-Ghana and our partners will also continue celebrating integrity champions through the Integrity Awards, which gained significant national prominence during our 25th anniversary celebration,” she said. “Our approach places citizens at the centre of accountability while positioning TI-Ghana as a beacon of integrity and reform both locally and internationally.”

The Board Chairman, Reverend Dr. Emmanuel K. Ansah, commended the Executive Director, management, and staff for maintaining a strong presence in national and international anti-corruption dialogues. He said TI-Ghana’s leadership has contributed meaningfully to the global Transparency International movement through its participation in the Annual Members' Meeting and TI Global Summit.

Rev. Ansah expressed gratitude to TI-Ghana’s development partners and donors, including Global Affairs Canada, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the European Union (EU), the Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), Global Financial Integrity (GFI), the Transparency International Secretariat, GDCA, and the Friends of Denmark project, for their continued support and collaboration.

The Board also announced the induction of six new distinguished professionals to strengthen its expertise and diversity. Additionally, three women were affirmed to replace outgoing Board members who had completed their terms of service.
