4th Edition of Power Energy Ghana & Buildexpo opens in Accra

The 4th edition of the Power Energy Ghana and Buildexpo Ghana, West Africa’s premier exhibition for building, construction, electrical, and energy sectors, has officially opened at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The two-day event, which began today, brings together industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers from across the globe to explore opportunities in sustainable energy, infrastructure development, and industrial transformation.

Opening the event on behalf of the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdullahi Jinapor, the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable energy sector to drive Ghana’s industrial growth and national development.

“Energy is the backbone of industrialisation. Every factory that opens, every business that expands, and every home that lights up is powered by the silent force of electricity and infrastructure,” he emphasised.

Hon. Gyan-Mensah explained that under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, the Ministry of Energy has embarked on wide-ranging reforms across the energy value chain to enhance transparency, efficiency, and investor confidence.

Key among these reforms are the Independent Power Producers (IPP) Tariff Rationalisation, designed to make electricity more affordable while maintaining investor confidence, and the Cash Waterfall Mechanism, which ensures fair and predictable payments within the power sector.

He also announced that Ghana has adopted a competitive and transparent procurement framework for power generation projects to promote fairness and efficiency in contract awards.

Describing the expo as a vital platform for collaboration and innovation, the Deputy Minister noted that it brings together experts and exhibitors from countries such as India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Nigeria, Egypt, and France to share expertise, technologies, and investment ideas.

“This expo demonstrates the power of partnership. Private capital, innovation, and technology transfer are indispensable to achieving universal access to energy and resilient infrastructure,” he remarked.

He further encouraged participants to take advantage of the platform to support the government’s “Big Push” and “Resetting Agenda”, aimed at providing reliable electricity to every home and powering industries across the nation.

Meanwhile, the High Commissioner of India to Ghana, H.E. Shri Manish Gupta, reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening economic, industrial, and energy cooperation with Ghana, describing the bilateral relationship as a “comprehensive and enduring partnership.”

The High Commissioner commended Ghana’s focus on infrastructure and energy development, which he said aligns perfectly with President Mahama’s Big Push agenda for road, rail, and industrial expansion.

“The construction, energy, and power sectors are critical for Ghana’s economic development. Once infrastructure develops, a whole host of ancillary industries and opportunities follow,” he said.

Highlighting the elevated level of India-Ghana relations following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit, Shri Gupta explained that both nations are now pursuing a broader framework of cooperation that includes technology transfer, capacity building, and renewable energy development.

He also emphasised India’s willingness to collaborate with Ghana in solar energy initiatives, stressing its potential to drive growth in agriculture and rural development, particularly through solar-powered irrigation systems and decentralised mini-grids that could transform livelihoods in Ghana’s northern regions.

“Solar energy should not only be seen as a source of power generation but also as a catalyst for agricultural and industrial transformation,” Shri Gupta noted.

The Power and Energy Ghana Expo continues tomorrow at the Accra International Conference Centre, providing a unique platform for knowledge sharing, investment promotion, and networking among key stakeholders in Africa’s evolving energy and construction sectors.
