NPP flagbearer race: Kennedy Agyapong leads in 11 regions in best-case scenario — Poll

A new survey into the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race has revealed that former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is currently leading in 11 regions in a best-case scenario analysis.

The research, conducted by a team of academics led by Dr. Evans Duah, shows that the former MP’s support base has widened significantly in recent months, particularly in the southern bloc, while former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia continues to dominate in the north.

Presenting the findings during a press conference in Accra on Monday, October 20, Dr. Duah noted that Kennedy Agyapong’s regional performance shows a major progress since the last survey.

“What we are seeing right here is that Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong leads in nine regions in the worst case and 11 regions in the best case. This shows that he has made inroads in key swing regions like Ahafo and Bono, which he was not leading in previously,” he stated.

According to the research, the two leading candidates have regional strongholds they are unlikely to lose regardless of campaign strategies employed by opponents.

“No matter what he does, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is not capable of winning more than 11 regions, and the same applies to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. But this snapshot clearly shows that Agyapong’s gains in two of the three swing regions are reshaping the race,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the contest, slated for January 31, 2026, also has Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong seeking to lead the party into the 2028 polls.
