'NDC cannot secure five successful prosecutions before 2028' – NPP MP
The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Lawyer Agyei Baffour Awuah, has cast doubt on the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s ability to successfully prosecute members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before the 2028 general elections, dismissing the government’s anti-corruption drive as mere political theatre.
Speaking on Agya Pa TV’s Atwene Show with host El Lizato, the outspoken MP ridiculed the NDC’s “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL) initiative and the ongoing corruption-related cases against former NPP officials, describing them as “empty propaganda meant to entertain party supporters.”
“The NDC cannot secure even five successful prosecutions before the next elections in 2028,” he said confidently. “They can make all the noise about ORAL and pretend to be fighting corruption, but this is nothing more than a show for political optics.”
When the host reminded him of President John Dramani Mahama’s reported comments about appointing more pro-NDC judges to fast-track cases against NPP figures, Lawyer Awuah dismissed the claim as unrealistic and undemocratic.
“That won’t happen,” he said firmly. “You can’t just wake up and decide to fill the courts with your people. It doesn’t work that way. Even under NPP, not every loyal supporter got an appointment. Governance isn’t about replacing state institutions with party loyalists.”
He urged Ghanaians to see through what he called “the NDC’s political games,” adding that true justice must be built on strong institutions, not partisan control.
“Not everyone who helps a party to win power must expect a position,” Awuah concluded. “Some people continue to serve the government’s vision in other meaningful ways. Leadership is about competence and integrity, not favoritism.”
