Energy Minister expands rural electrification to 14 communities in Central Gonja District
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor is set to commission newly completed rural electrification projects across 14 communities in the Central Gonja District of the Savanna Region on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
The beneficiary communities include Zolampe, Nikpegu, Torope, Dokope, Kpatinyan, Darivogupe, Bagpe, Dawunipe, Diwurupe, Larigbani, Mammudupe, Sankaupe, and Nyinyape The project forms part of the government’s broader effort to extend reliable and affordable electricity to rural areas under the National Electrification Scheme.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the commissioning represents another milestone in the government’s drive to improve the quality of life in rural communities, foster inclusive growth, and ensure equitable access to modern energy services nationwide.
The event is expected to attract traditional authorities, opinion leaders, officials of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), the Central Gonja District Assembly, and members of the beneficiary communities.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Hon. Jinapor reaffirmed government’s commitment to equitable energy distribution, describing electricity as a key enabler of opportunity and development.
“Electricity is not just about lighting homes; it is about powering opportunity, driving enterprise, and transforming lives. Through projects like this, we are delivering on our promise to make energy the bedrock of Ghana’s green and inclusive development,” the Minister stated.
The Ministry reiterated its resolve to continue advancing projects that strengthen the nation’s green transition agenda and ensure no community is left behind in Ghana’s energy development journey.
