Kintampo Overlord stresses role of culture in promoting unity

The Overlord of the Kintampo Traditional Area, (Masaaba) Sariki Yusif Koulibaly Fanyanimah III, has emphasized that festivals are not merely platforms for showcasing talent but powerful reminders that culture is the thread that binds communities together.

He made the remarks on October 2, 2025, at the Kintampo Senior High School Assembly Hall, where he chaired the Kintampo North Municipality Inter-Circuit Festival of Creative Arts and Culture. The programme, organised by the Ghana Education Service (GES), was held under the theme “The Role of Arts and Culture in Strengthening Peace and Unity in Ghana.”

Nana Fanyanimah said festivals go beyond singing, dancing, or proverb recitals, stressing that they embody the way people live, the values they uphold, and the wisdom that guides peaceful coexistence. “When our children learn to perform together, they also learn to live together in unity and peace,” he noted.

He explained that disciplines such as music, poetry, drum language, drama, dance, drawing, fashion, cook art, ampe, and exhibitions are not only creative expressions but lessons in discipline, cooperation, and identity. In a time when conflicts divide societies, he added, culture serves as a bridge, reminding people of shared values of respect, tolerance, and togetherness.

The Kintampo Overlord praised the Municipal Director of Education, the Municipal Cultural Coordinator, Mr. Edward Yamoah, teachers, and other stakeholders for their efforts. “With this event, you’re not only preserving our heritage but also planting seeds of peace and unity for the future,” he said. He also donated 1,000 exercise books for distribution to pupils in the municipality.

From the GES, Mr. Alhassan Muhammed, Deputy Director in charge of Inspectorate and Supervision, revealed that six circuits participated in the competition—Baniantwe, Kunsu, Kadelso, Babatokuma, Asantekwa, Kintampo East, and Kintampo West. He explained that the contest aimed to select the best performers to represent the municipality at the upcoming Inter-District Cultural Festival.

Speaking on the theme, Mr. Muhammed stressed that peace was essential for development. He urged greater investment in the creative industry, arguing that it could help reduce unemployment while showcasing Ghanaian culture to the world.
