NPP lost 2024 elections not because of Bawumia, but our bad attitude — Trobu MP
The Member of Parliament for Trobu, Gloria Owusu, has dismissed suggestions that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections was due to its choice of candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The NPP, which had vowed to “break the 8,” lost the polls by over 1.6 million votes to the National Democratic Congress’ John Dramani Mahama.
Some party members claimed that more than two million supporters refused to vote in 2024 because the party presented the wrong presidential candidate.
However, speaking during Dr. Bawumia’s flagbearer campaign stop at Lapaz in the Greater Accra Region on Friday, October 3, the Trobu legislator said the real cause of the loss was the poor attitude of some leaders towards the grassroots.
“I believe the NPP did not lose the 2024 general elections because of our candidate, Dr. Bawumia, but rather due to our bad attitudes towards the party’s polling station executives,” she stated.
Speaking on behalf of delegates from the Amasaman, Trobu, Anyaa-Sowutoum and Dome-Kwabenya constituencies, she declared their support for the former Vice President.
“As for us in Amasaman, Trobu, Anyaa-Sowutoum and Dome-Kwabenya, we assure you that we will support and help you win the flagbearer elections,” she said.
The MP added that even market women have warned that the NPP would lose again in 2028 if Dr. Bawumia is not maintained in its upcoming 2026 presidential primaries.
