Immigration officer killed, another injured in violent attack at Gbintri checkpoint
A deadly late-night assault on a Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) checkpoint at Gbintri in the East Mamprusi Municipality has left one officer dead and another fighting for his life.
The attack occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on immigration officers manning the checkpoint.
Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICO II) Rafiq Mohammed was killed on the spot, while his colleague, AICO II Oppong Daniel, sustained gunshot wounds to the jaw and back.
He is currently receiving emergency treatment at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu.
Police investigators who combed the scene recovered several AK-47 shell casings along with a GIS rifle bearing registration number GH/GIS/HQACN 668516-1646.
A joint security operation, led by Superintendent Francis Brobbey, Municipal Police Commander for Gambaga, and DIS Moro Tanko Mohammed, Regional Intelligence Officer of GIS, has been launched to track down the assailants.
