A Mosquito is a Mosquito!

"The owl enters not the nest of the lark."

President Mahama is only 9 months in office, yet names are flying helter-skelter about his replacement among the NDC already.

Politics is promiscuous. It has many masters. She must move from party to party, person to person, region to region and town to town in its never-ending circus. Afterall, the NPP is on the threshold of electing its next flagbearer. Why not the NDC? To politicians, 2028 is only tomorrow.

And yet, some of the flying names, I beg to say, are disparaging, They leave you numb!

Take the General, for example! I confess there is no one in the NDC who tickles my fancy like him. He is a typical party hawk, brave at throwing arrows into the enemy camp and biting them like a mosquito from close range, sometimes even to the applause of his foes.

He is common-sensical, annoyingly forthright, taunting, audacious, and somewhat knowledgeable even if he came away from the election petition of 2000 a bit superficial, quite unconvincing and generally underwhelming.

Even without being articulate, he is a huge success as General Secretary. A General doesn't need to be articulate to command his troops.

But l wonder what the hell is pushing the General to envision himself as a future president of Ghana. Has a prophet been lying to him? Is he equating the buzzing sound of the mosquito to the orderliness, charisma and charm of the presidency? Which diagnostic research rendered such a disastrous concoction to the General to instigate such a desire?

The Mosquito has been trying very mch lately to look presidential. His interviews, dressing, and public appearances are now extremely circumspect. He looks no more agitated, and is a bit careful with his mien.

But ladies and gentlemen, a mosquito is a mosquito no matter its artificial apparition. An owl enters not the nest of the lark.

Both Okudjeto and Haruna are too young to lead Ghana at this time. Spio is not bad, but somehow, he has failed to cause a spark n the past and that is not going to change anytime soon. Being president is not in his stars.

Only two people tickle my presidential nerves currently in the NDC. Nana Opoku Agyemang and Goozie Tanoh, despite his baggage.

But Nana has a history of being first in many things. First female VC in Ghana, first woman Vice President of Ghana, first many others that do not matter to me now.

Ghanaians would like to try her as their first female president if she proves her mettle under John Dramani Mahama. Her calm, respectful disposition, her strong appeal among women voters, the power of her swing region in Ghanaian elections, her appeal among students and the academia and her experience on the job as Mahama's under-study puts her miles and mile sahead of anyone in the current NDC as we head to election 2028.

A lot however depends on John Mahama's performance. He has been only above average so far, his prevarications with the galamsey menace hurting his ratings badly. Ghanaians need more than an average performance to put their hope in anything NDC in 2028.

As for the General, he may yet try his luck if he has some good cash to throw around.
