‘Marriage will only stand if you marry as a virgin to keep the covenant’ – Counselor Adumatta
Ghanaian marriage counselor and life coach, Counselor Kweku Adumatta, has triggered a heated debate following his appearance on this week’s episode of The Real Talk Podcast hosted by Elizabeth Essuman.
He attributed the increasing rate of divorce to society’s changing perception of marriage, which he argued is no longer treated as a sacred covenant.
“Divorce has become rampant these days simply because marriages are seen as contracts, which breeds betrayal amongst the different reasons we hear on a daily basis as to why divorce continues to spring at the least pinch,” he said.
Counselor Adumatta went further, insisting that the foundation of a lasting marriage rests on sexual purity before marriage.
“A lot of us from the word, 'go', have broken vows because we did not marry virgins. I'm sorry to say this, but it's a lingering truth that a thriving marriage can only stand if you marry as a virgin — that's where the covenant comes in, thus, 'no sex before marriage' is an order from God,” he added.
He also highlighted recurring challenges he observes in his counseling sessions, noting that poor communication often creates deep-seated resentment between couples.
“A lot of marriages make the mistakes of assumptions which lead to bitterness, and so on,” he said.
His remarks immediately stirred strong reactions from fellow panelists and listeners of the show, with opinions sharply divided over his controversial views.
