Monday, September 22 declared public holiday in observance of Founder’s Day
The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Monday, September 22, 2025, will be observed as an additional public holiday across Ghana in celebration of Founder’s Day.
Founder’s Day, which falls on Sunday, September 21, 2025, is a statutory public holiday set aside to honor Ghana’s founding leaders and their contributions to the nation’s independence.
However, because the day falls on a Sunday this year, President John Dramani Mahama has, by Executive Instrument (E.I), declared the following Monday as an additional holiday in line with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended.
A statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, emphasized that the holiday should be observed nationwide.
The extension gives Ghanaians the opportunity to fully commemorate the occasion while also enjoying a long weekend.
Founder’s Day is widely marked with public events, lectures, and activities celebrating Ghana’s independence struggle and its enduring legacy.
