Nothing Should Distract The Ndc From Presenting Chief Julius Debrah As Its Flagbearer For The 2028 General Elections
In examining the principles of Leadership, it could be said unequivocally that Leadership is not earned or achieved. Leadership is not about accolades and neither title. Leadership is nurtured because it requires virtue which is the last remnant of democracy. Leadership is service to God and Humanity. So, Leadership is rooted and grounded on humility, service and obedience and whiles serving the people you lead, you find your true identity. It has nothing to do with selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in Humility, a Leader values his servants above himself not looking to his selfish parochial interest but the interest of those he serves. Therefore, in principle true Leadership requires putting others first and leading with humility.
Thus, in putting these factual principles about Leadership together, it could be said that Chief Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana deserves to lead the NDC among all others as its FLAGBEARER for the 2028 general elections to consolidate the gains of the President John Mahama reset Ghana agenda going forward. This is because Chief Julius Debrah possesses all these qualities of a servant leader mentioned-above. He deserves to lead the NDC because without doubt, his political trajectory and transition to lead is nurtured from the roots, principles and fabrique that established the NDC party. His political journey has been smooth, focused and précised in touching base with all the structures and identifiable groups within the NDC. Who leads the NDC in 2028 should never be a gamble but a well thought mantra in assessing the potentials of all interested candidates to lead the NDC.
For those who do not know, Chief Julius Debrah has served all the structures and leadership of the NDC with humility and sincerity since time memorial. He served Jerry John Rawlings, Prof. Atta Mills and the current President John Mahama who Chief has demonstrated unquestionable loyalty to. From a humble beginning and coming from a village in the Eastern region, he attended the Prestigious Achimota Secondary School and the University of Ghana whiles trading in Accra for his upkeep and those around him. By his youthful exuberance, he was caught up in the spectacle of the Founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings as a Cadre and eventually became the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC. The Youngest Regional Chairman the NDC has ever had. His political prowess, clout and hard work made the NDC attractive in the Akan dominated Region. Living among wolves, he attracted and appealed to many discerning minds in the Region and the gains of his hard work manifested in the electoral results in the 2008 general elections under his watch. The best results the NDC has ever had in the Region. Further, his dedication to the grassroots, his tireless commitment to national development and unwavering Loyalty to the entire NDC makes him a beacon of hope for the future of NDC.
After his dedicated service to Jerry John Rawlings, he never turned back on Prof. John Evans Atta Mills who succeeded Rawlings. As a comrade who worked closely with Atta Mills, I remember the late former president always calling on him for his support and contribution to the NDC. He was there for President Mills when nobody else was especially in the most difficult times of the former President. When the NDC lost power in 2000, he was one of the few who never deserted the party and the grassroots. He held the comrades and the structures together. He supported and financed the party whiles in opposition until the NDC returned to power in 2008. This he never boast of and to him, he understands it as service to God and humanity. He helps the Party and the grassroots when the need be except he does not have the means. He does this quietly without letting people know and without taking glory because he was building a career path to lead as a Servant. Even when issues came up between the Prof. Mills and the Rawlingses, he never took sides. He navigated through and appealed to all of them. He was always smoking peace pipe because by the peaceful disposition within him, he doesn’t like where there malice, faction, division and hatred.
In governance he served under Prof. Mills as the Director General of the Ghana Tourist Authority, and further served as Eastern and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development as well as Chief of Staff in JM first term and same in JM second term. Everywhere he served, he lived a mark and blue print there. Without doubt, Chief Julius Debrah has been the most dedicated and most loyal to President John Mahama and the NDC Party. He has stood by him in good times and bad times. He understands the vision of JM to reset Ghana more than any figure in the NDC and his contribution to the NDC Manifesto [RESET] that returned the NDC to power in 2024 was exceptional. He traveled length and breadth across the country with President Mahama to campaign for victory, He provided him with all the assistance, support and care the president needed in those difficult times. Whiles in opposition, many of the grassroots were deserted and many were frustrated. JD never deserted the grassroots. He was there for the grassroots who touch base with him supporting them in so many diverse ways.
As a Business Mogul and Governance Expert, his inclinations about governance and business are exceptional. He possesses rich ideas on the capital market economy, agri-business, and industrialization as means of economic prosperity for all. He believes in liberty, economic freedom and wealth creation for all. His trajectory and understanding of Social development goals that could have direct impact on the sustainable livelihood development on citizens are unquestionable. He is socially oriented and grounded on the principle of social contract. He is an embodiment of Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere [EGLE] upon which principle the NDC was founded. So, he is more rooted in the ideals and principles that birthed the NDC as in probity, honesty, transparency, accountability and social justices where these qualities will surely manifest the more when he succeeds John Mahama. He appeals to everybody because his charisma conquers hearts to the extent that most diehard NPP surrogates admire him and some will be willing to cross carpet should he become the next flagbearer of the NDC. He is a Symbol of unity within the NDC who has worked tirelessly to unify factions within the NDC on the quiet and touted as the “Smooth Operator”
So, to conclude, I reiterate that NDC needs a fabrique like Chief Julius Debrah as its Presidential Candidate for the 2028 general election to consolidate the gains of JM reset agenda going forward. He is tried and tested and he is currently demonstrating these qualities in his capacity as the Chief of Staff. He understands the Reset agenda better and the best is yet to come through his leadership. Therefore, as we look forward with renewed faith, I urge the teaming supporters of the NDC and the grassroots to rally behind this humble servant of the people—A man of Integrity, compassion and action. In every generation destiny presents a leader who carries wisdom of experience, humility, service and courage to lead and in this generation of NDC, destiny has presented Chief Julius Debrah to lead and live a mark for generations unborn. Who succeeds President John Mahama is not just about Charismatic figure but about building a stronger NDC, united in purpose and creating prosperity for all Ghanaians and the NDC.
