V/R: Agenda-111 hospital project at Agortoe 48% complete

The Agenda 111 hospital facility at Agortoe, in the Anloga District of the Volta Region is said to be 48 per cent complete, Madam Seyram Sandra Kpedor, the District Chief Executive (DCE) has announced.

The project was part of the previous government’s ambitious Agenda 111 initiative, aimed at constructing 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals, and several specialised healthcare facilities across the country.

Madam Kpedor said information about the Anloga District Hospital, situated at Agortoe indicated that the healthcare centre was designed to offer state-of-the-art facilities, including outpatient services, ophthalmology, dental services, a physiotherapy unit, and four modern surgical theatres.

“Further documents available revealed that the hospital is planned to sit on a 15-acre site with an estimated construction cost of approximately US$17 million,” she said.

She explained that the design was incorporated with sustainable elements, that aimed at lowering carbon footprint, solar harvesting, and thermal mass, blending modern technology with contextual and holistic approaches.

Madam Kpedor said that a visit to the site and the report received from the constructors indicated that the project was 48 per cent complete with previous reports suggesting the lack of funds for the delayed and challenges that affected its timeline.

“When the Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister came here we visited the site, he addressed the delays in the Agenda 111 Hospital project and pledged a swift action on development gaps because this project is very important to us.”

She said areas such as Out Patients Department (OPD) and other important departments were neared completion and hoped there would be speedy construction works to help complete the structure within a stipulated time to serve the healthcare purposes.

She said the Anloga District Hospital when completed, was expected to significantly enhance healthcare access for residents to provide critical services and improve health outcomes in the area.

Ghana News Agency gathered that the government secured US $100 million from the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund to execute about 15 percent of Agenda 111 works with subsequent annual budgetary allocations expected for financing.

The Agenda 111 hospital project was touted as a transformative initiative for healthcare system in the country with the target aimed to set new standards on the continent by merging 21st-century technology with contextual healthcare approaches by the previous Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party government.

Local residents in and around Anloga, Agortoe and the surrounding communities have expressed excitement about the importance of the project for addressing healthcare gaps in the district, which has also provided job and would improve healthcare services to align with government efforts to enhance decentralized development.

It was also revealed that the construction projects of new Anloga District Assembly structure and the residency of the DCE were at various stages of completion to help improve the development of the area.
