One person dead in renewed Sampa chieftaincy violence

Calm has returned to Sampa in the Bono Region following violent clashes over the town’s protracted chieftaincy dispute that erupted again on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, claiming one life and leaving several people injured.

The Ghana Police Service, in a Facebook update, confirmed that Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, had dispatched reinforcement teams to Sampa and surrounding communities to stabilise the situation. Security has since been tightened with intensified patrols to safeguard residents and prevent further violence.

The disturbances mark yet another bloody episode in Sampa’s long-running chieftaincy feud. On March 29, 2024, four men were gunned down in similar clashes, while several others, including a 12-year-old boy hit by a stray bullet, sustained serious injuries. The boy was later transferred to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Authorities say the conflict stems from rivalry between two factions laying claim to the Sampa stool, a dispute that has repeatedly boiled over into violence despite mediation efforts.
