Mamprugu Youth Association demands retraction from Ken Agyapong over ‘reckless’ Bawku Chieftaincy allegations

The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA), Bawku Chapter, has issued a scathing response to claims by Kennedy Agyapong and his spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia imposed a rival chief on the people of Bawku during an election period.

In a statement released on Thursday, September 4, the group blasted the allegation as “reckless, malicious, and dangerous,” warning that it could further inflame the already fragile Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

MAYA accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart and his spokesperson of reviving propaganda originally pushed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 election campaign.

“It is disgraceful that Mr. Kennedy Agyapong and his spokesperson, who claimed to support the NPP candidate in that election, are now resurrecting the same propaganda,” the statement said.

The association cautioned that dragging the Bawku crisis into partisan politics was unacceptable, describing such conduct as “a direct insult to the people of Bawku and the entire Mamprugu Kingdom.”

MAYA demanded an immediate apology and retraction, stressing that if Mr Agyapong and his team failed to comply, they would be declared unwelcome in the constituency.

“We will not allow any individual, no matter how highly placed, to trade the peace of Bawku for political expediency. The future of our people is far more important than the desperation of politicians,” the group stated.

The statement was signed by Seidu Awudu, President of MAYA’s Bawku Chapter, and Abdul Majeed Bagura, its Secretary.
