Tema East MP engages management of Tema General Hospital
Honourable Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Member of Parliament for Tema East, has begun a series of strategic stakeholder engagements with his constituents, focusing on healthcare, security, water infrastructure, and party affairs.
The initiative, he said, is aimed at driving holistic development in the constituency.
As part of this effort, Hon. Odamtten paid a working visit to the Tema General Hospital, where he officially welcomed the new Medical Director, Dr. Raphael Armah, and held discussions on strengthening collaboration.
He highlighted his longstanding support for the facility, recalling interventions he championed during his tenure as Municipal Chief Executive and continued as MP. These include facilitating the construction of the mortuary building, supporting the delivery and MTN wards, and providing a poly tank to improve the hospital’s water supply.
Hospital management conducted the MP and his team on a tour of ongoing projects such as the new physiotherapy department, a modern surgical theatre, an oxygen plant, and administrative facilities.
Hon. Odamtten assured the management of his “continuous and unwavering support” for the hospital. Dr. Armah, in response, expressed deep appreciation, noting that the facility regularly benefits from donations by the Tema community.
The Tema General Hospital, established in 1954 to serve workers who built the Tema Harbour, was later handed over to government. Today, it provides a wide range of services including internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, accident and emergency care, as well as specialised clinics in eye, dental, dermatology, diabetic, and sickle cell management. It also offers laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and physiotherapy services and operates under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
