Bible Society of Ghana empowers Adolescent girls in Savelugu Municipality

The Bible Society of Ghana has organized a seminar for adolescent girls in the Savelugu Municipality, bringing together participants from 15 Junior High Schools to raise awareness on teenage pregnancy and equip them with practical skills in bead making.

The event, held in collaboration with local stakeholders, featured key dignitaries including traditional rulers, health practitioners and academia.

In his opening remarks, Reverend Atia Anara Charles, Regional Manager for the Bible Society, emphasized the need to educate and empower the girl child.

He announced plans to introduce the “Teens Trauma Programme” in the Northern Region to address psychological challenges among teenagers.

Rev. Charles also expressed hope that the bead-making sessions would offer girls a productive alternative to idle time, helping them avoid risky behavior.

Delivering remarks on behalf of Sahakpal Naa, his secretary highlighted the far-reaching consequences of teenage pregnancy on individuals and society, urging collaborative efforts between the public and organizations like the Bible Society to curb early parenthood.

Mr. Mohammed Fuseini commended the initiative, stressing the importance of safeguarding the future of girls. He encouraged the students to be inspired by prominent women from the municipality, such as former MP Mary Boforo, former MCE Hajia Ayishetu, and current MP Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz.

Ms. Amatu Mercy, the guest speaker, urged the girls to abstain from sexual activity and commended the Bible Society for its commitment to youth development, calling for more frequent engagements of this nature.

Some of the students shared what they had learned, pledging to make better choices and avoid early sexual activity.

They thanked the Bible Society of Ghana for the initiative.

The seminar concluded with practical bead-making training designed to offer the girls a valuable skill during school holidays.
