Ofori-Atta’s alleged medical report was submitted to the media, not us — OSP clarifies

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) says it has not received any medical report from the embattled former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

This comes after a medical report dated May 14, and signed by doctors at the Mayo Clinic in the United States, revealed that Mr. Ofori-Atta has been diagnosed with prostate cancer after undergoing an MR-guided biopsy.

The report also indicated that the former minister is scheduled for surgery on June 13, 2025, and would require some time to recover before he can return to Ghana.

“Mr. Ofori-Atta has undergone an MR-guided biopsy and has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. A surgical intervention has been deemed necessary after the testing, MRI, and biopsy procedures in March 2025, as I indicated in my February letter.

“This surgical procedure has been scheduled for June 13, with Dr. Paras Shah of the Department of Urology (see attached letter). It is hoped that a closer date may open up. Following the procedure, Mr. Ofori-Atta will require a recovery period before he is able to travel to his home country,” the report, addressed “To whom it may concern,” stated.

But in response to media reports on the document on Tuesday, June 3, the OSP clarified that “neither Mr. Ofori-Atta nor his lawyers have submitted any such [medical report] to the OSP.”

It noted that the only correspondence it has received from Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal team is a letter merely notifying the office of a change in his medical condition, based solely on their own claim.

“It is notable that this alleged hospital letter has been circulated through the media rather than submitted to the law enforcement agency actively investigating him and responsible for decisions regarding his return to Ghana.

“To date, no certified medical records or official document from any hospital authority has been submitted to the OSP indicating that Mr. Ofori-Atta is incapacitated or unable to travel to Ghana,” the office added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ofori-Atta, who is under investigation for corruption-related offences, was redeclared a wanted fugitive by the OSP on Monday, June 2.
