Cedi gains: Shell joins Goil, StarOil in reducing fuel prices
Shell Ghana has joined other oil marketing companies in reducing fuel prices following the recent appreciation of the cedi.
The company, on Tuesday, June 3, lowered its price for petrol (Super) from GHS13.29 to GHS12.49, and diesel from GHS13.89 to GHS12.89.
This comes a day after Goil and StarOil adjusted their prices downward, citing gains made by the cedi against major foreign currencies.
As of Monday, June 2, 2025, state-owned Ghana Oil Company Limited (Goil) reduced the price of petrol from GHS13.27 per litre to GHS12.52, and diesel from GHS13.87 to GHS12.98.
According to Goil, the new prices took effect at exactly 6:00 a.m. on Monday.
StarOil also announced new rates, with petrol dropping from GHS12.57 to GHS11.77, and diesel from GHS13.49 to GHS12.49. The revised prices took effect at 8:00 a.m.
Additionally, StarOil noted that selected outlets across the country will offer further discounted rates—GHS11.57 per litre for petrol and GHS12.29 for diesel.
Announcing the price adjustments, StarOil attributed the reductions to the strengthening of the cedi against the U.S. dollar.
“And therefore, effective 8 a.m. this morning, June 2, 2025, we have dropped our prices of petrol and diesel to pass on the savings to you, our cherished Starsavers!” the company stated.
