NDC's Joseph Ade Coker is dead

Joseph Kobina Ade Coker, a long-serving stalwart of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Greater Accra Regional Chairman, has died.

He passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a brief illness.

Though the specific cause of death has not yet been disclosed, party sources confirmed his passing and expressed deep sorrow at the news.

Ade Coker was a prominent figure within the NDC, known for his strategic leadership and deep grassroots connections.

He served as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party from 2009 until 2022, when he was unseated by Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore during internal party elections.

His tenure was marked by vigorous political engagement, electoral campaigning, and efforts to consolidate the party’s presence in Ghana’s capital region.

A seasoned politician and media personality before his full immersion into frontline politics, Ade Coker played a pivotal role in shaping the NDC’s fortunes in the Greater Accra Region over more than a decade.

His commitment to the party, even after losing his chairmanship, remained resolute, with many within the NDC viewing him as a mentor and an enduring voice of experience.

Tributes have begun pouring in from party members, colleagues, and sympathizers across the political divide. Many have hailed him as a dedicated public servant whose contributions to Ghana’s democratic development will be remembered.

Details regarding funeral arrangements and official statements from the NDC leadership are expected in the coming days.
