Ken Agyapong volunteers to stand as surety for Wontumi in EOCO probe
Kennedy Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has volunteered to stand as a surety for Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
This development comes amid efforts by Chairman Wontumi’s legal team to secure a GHS 50 million bail bond as he faces investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over alleged financial transactions involving EXIM Bank.
Lead counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi told Citi News that they are confident about meeting the bail conditions, which require providing two sureties by the end of the day.
Kwesi Opoku, NPP Chairman for Tema West and a vocal supporter of Agyapong’s presidential ambitions, confirmed to Citi News on Wednesday, May 28, that Kennedy Agyapong had willingly agreed to serve as one of the sureties.
“I am confirming. The counsel, Appiah-Kubi, was telling him (Ken Agyapong) what the bail conditions are. So he offered himself that he was available because the Director of Special Prosecution here will examine whatever the bail conditions are, and they said that those of us who are not [involved] should come out, and we came out, and he is in there. As we speak now, he is in there,” he stated.
