Volta Regional Minister applauds Friends of Adaklu for bridging digital gap in rural schools
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has praised the efforts of Friends of Adaklu (FOA), a registered non-governmental organization, for their commitment to expanding internet connectivity in rural schools within the Adaklu District and other parts of the Volta Region.
Hon. Gunu made the commendation during a visit by Madam Stella Kudah Dzifa, the Country Director of FOA, who called on him to present digital devices as part of the organization’s education initiative. He described the project as a significant step toward empowering children in underserved communities with the digital skills needed to succeed in today’s world. “Together, we are working toward a future where no child is left behind in the digital age,” he stated.
The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with Our Future Prize (OFP), a US-based 501(c)(3) organization, will equip each selected school with a Starlink internet device, provide one year of free data access, and offer a variety of online learning tools. Hon. Gunu urged continued support for such transformative projects that deliver innovation, educational opportunity, and progress to the region.
The project aligns with FOA’s broader mission to foster sustainable development in education, healthcare, and social entrepreneurship. As the first of its kind in the Volta Region, the program is designed to narrow the digital divide by extending internet access to schools and communities often left out of the technological conversation.
Six schools across five districts are expected to benefit from this groundbreaking project. These include Adaklu Dawanu Salvation Army Basic School in the Adaklu District; Impact Hub Academy in Dzolokpuita within the Ho West District; Akpokofe D/A Basic School and Agotime Senior High School, both in the Agotime Ziope District; and Tanyigbe Senior High School in the Ho Municipality.
