Missionary Childhood Group donates to Jirapa Orphanage

A team from the Missionary Childhood group of St. Theresa’s Minor Basilica in Nandom and Our Lady of Nativity Parish in Ko has made a heartwarming donation to St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Jirapa.

The orphanage, which currently houses 22 children (10 males and 12 females), including four sets of twins, received assorted soft drinks and biscuits as part of the outreach. In addition, the Minor Basilica in Nandom donated a cash amount of GHC300 to support the upkeep of the children.

The visit was spearheaded by the Sisters of Mary Immaculate, with leadership from Rev. Sr. Pia Panpogee, Rev. Sr. Judith Bataale, Rev. Sr. Sylvia Kono, and Rev. Sr. Monica Puozaa, who accompanied the children on the mission.

Rector of the St. Theresa’s Minor Basilica, Rev. Fr. Dr. Gregory Dongkore, played a key role in mobilising resources and coordinating support for the trip. Transportation for the team was generously provided by St. Anne’s Technical Institute, which donated a vehicle to convey the group to Jirapa.

In addition to the donation, the team also took time to visit the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel, Resort and Safari, popularly referred to as “Jirapa Dubai,” adding a moment of leisure and learning for the young missionaries.

The activity forms part of efforts by the Missionary Childhood to promote compassion, generosity, and solidarity among children in the Catholic Church, while bringing smiles to the faces of their peers in less privileged circumstances.
