Hon. Isaac Kusi Amponsah elected Presiding Member of Tano South Municipal Assembly

The Tano South Municipal Assembly has successfully elected Hon. Isaac Kusi Amponsah as its Presiding Member during a special meeting held on Monday.

All 56 Assembly Members present cast a unanimous YES vote, confirming his appointment through the ballot process.

Addressing the Assembly before the election, the Tano South Municipal Coordinating Director and Acting Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Augustine Peprah, stated that the meeting was constitutionally mandated under Article 244 (1, 2, and 3) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

He emphasised the urgency of electing a Presiding Member to enable the Assembly to convene officially and proceed with the confirmation of the President’s nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position. He added that this step was critical to ensuring effective administration and development within the municipality.

The election was conducted under the supervision of the Ahafo Regional Electoral Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Kyei. A 20-minute nomination window was opened, during which Hon. Isaac Kusi Amponsah was the sole candidate to file for the position.

In the subsequent election, Hon. Kusi Amponsah secured all 56 votes, meeting the constitutional requirement of a two-thirds majority and confirming his election as Presiding Member.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Isaac Kusi Amponsah expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Assembly Members and stakeholders for their trust and support.

He pledged to work collaboratively with all members and to foster an inclusive environment where deliberations on developmental issues would be taken seriously for the benefit of the Tano South Municipality.

“Our mission as an Assembly demands unity and active participation. I encourage all Hon. Members to commit to the development agenda by contributing meaningfully to discussions and decisions that affect our people,” he said.

The election marks a significant step in positioning the Tano South Assembly for effective governance and accelerated development.
