11 killed in deadly crash on Accra-Kumasi Highway

A devastating accident on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Monday has left 11 people dead and several others injured.

The crash occurred near Amanase, close to Suhum in the Eastern Region, around 5:00 AM.

The incident involved a Sprinter bus with registration number GW 6510-23, which was heading towards Kumasi, and a fuel tanker registered GR 1300-16. According to eyewitness accounts, the tanker is believed to have veered off its lane after the driver allegedly dozed off while driving, leading to a head-on collision with the oncoming Sprinter bus.

The impact of the crash was fatal, with 11 passengers reported to have died on the spot.

Emergency personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Suhum responded promptly to the scene. ADO1 Akonnor Opare Ohene Daniel, PRO for the GNFS in Suhum Municipality, confirmed the tragic incident in an interview with Accra FM/CTV's Apelete Kofi-Michel.

He reported that several passengers sustained various degrees of injuries, with some in critical condition. The injured were transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash, and efforts are being made to notify the families of the deceased and ensure proper care for survivors.
