Vice President Prof. Jane Naana begins three-week medical leave
Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has begun a three-week medical leave effective April 7, 2025, on the advice of her doctors, who recommended the break to allow her to focus on rest and recovery.
According to sources at Jubilee House, the decision follows recent health concerns that prompted her to seek specialized care. After receiving initial treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra, she later traveled abroad for further medical attention.
Providing an update on her condition during a community event in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 6, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, reassured the public that the Vice President is responding well to treatment and is expected to return to her official duties soon. He expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support and prayers from Ghanaians at home and abroad, which he said have contributed positively to her recovery.
Ablakwa also addressed speculation surrounding her health, strongly condemning what he described as “vicious and unGhanaian propaganda.” He called on Ghanaians to focus instead on the Vice President’s strength and accomplishments.
