Free dialysis will keep running until Mahama Cares becomes operational — NHIA
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has clarified the status of the free dialysis program for kidney patients following the launch of the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund.
The Authority stated that the program will continue until the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, also known as Mahama Cares, becomes fully operational.
A statement dated March 21 and signed by Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive of the NHIA, noted the Mahama Cares initiative is expected to support the cost of care for individuals with chronic diseases, including kidney failure requiring dialysis, cancers, and heart diseases.
“The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) wishes to reassure the public that the Free Dialysis program under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is ongoing and will continue until the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, also known as the Mahama Cares initiative, becomes fully operational.
“The Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, an initiative of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, aims to support the cost of care for individuals with chronic diseases, including kidney failure (requiring dialysis), cancers, and heart diseases,” the statement read in part.
