Police arrest suspected boyfriend of deceased final-year KNUST student

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old Daniel Tuffuor, a final-year student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in connection with the murder of Miss Joana Deladem Yabani.

Miss Yabani, a Biological Sciences student in her final year, was discovered dead around 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025, near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre. Security personnel from the university made the grim discovery and alerted authorities.

According to DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, campus surveillance footage played a crucial role in identifying Tuffuor as a suspect.

“We have identified the suspect through CCTV footage on the KNUST campus, and he is currently assisting us with our investigations,” he stated.

In response to the tragic incident, police have stepped up security on campus, launching a 24-hour surveillance operation to ensure the safety of students and staff.

“We are stepping up our efforts to maintain security on campus. Our officers will be conducting round-the-clock patrols and monitoring activities,” DCOP Cudjoe added.

KNUST authorities addressed the incident in a statement released on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

The university also confirmed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, had spoken with Vice-Chancellor Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, reassuring her of enhanced security measures.

“Waking up to such horrible news was truly saddening, and losing a student in this manner is heartbreaking, especially for parents. We are grateful to the IGP for his swift intervention and the measures that have been put in place,” she remarked.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities committed to securing justice for Miss Yabani and her family.
