Mahama’s SONA well-written and forward-looking — Franklin Cudjoe
Founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has lauded the State of the Nation Address delivered to Parliament by President John Dramani Mahama.
The policy advisor said the speech was well-written and presented forward-looking policies, just like the inaugural address delivered on January 7, 2025.
In a social media post on Thursday, February 27, Mr. Cudjoe said what remains now is for the President to translate his words into action, especially with regard to the 24-hour economy, agribusiness, and the proposed $10 billion infrastructure fund.
“Mahama’s SONA, just like his inaugural address, is well written and forward-looking. We will now expect substantive action, especially on his 24-hour economy, agribusiness & the $10bn infrastructure fund,” he wrote.
In his presentation, the President painted a bleak picture of the economy handed over to him by the previous Nana Akufo-Addo-led administration.
He noted that the country’s debt currently stands at GHS 721 billion, with a minimal balance in the Sinking Fund, as well as liabilities at the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Ghana Cocoa Board.
Despite these challenges, the President said his administration will work hard to reset the country to its past glory and ensure the confidence reposed in him does not go to waste.
“The good people of Ghana elected me to office with a historic electoral margin of nearly 1.7 million votes separating me from my closest opponent, giving Ghanaians the first female Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and giving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that resounding victory.
“This is a selfless call to duty from a people who are tired of years of economic hardship and poor governance. That call places an obligation on us and all who serve, including legislators from both sides of the house, to do our utmost with decency and humility to change the circumstances and the state of our country,” the President stressed.
