NSA dismisses all volunteers as part of ‘restructuring’
The National Service Authority (NSA) has terminated the appointments of all volunteers at its offices nationwide, effective February 28.
The move, announced in a letter addressed to all Heads of Departments and Regional Directors dated February 21, forms part of the authority’s ongoing restructuring efforts.
However, the termination excludes districts with only one staff member managing the office, where a volunteer is required for assistance, as well as those overseeing vacant districts with one assistant, cleaners, catering staff, and farm workers.
“HODs, Unit Heads, and Regional Directors must ensure that all property belonging to the NSA, such as laptops, documents, and motorbikes, are returned to the NSA by the end of the deadline,” the letter, signed by NSA Director-General Felix Gyimah, stated.
Meanwhile, the authority has recently come under public scrutiny following the exposure of a payroll scandal by the Media Foundation for West Africa’s accountability journalism project, The Fourth Estate.
The investigative report revealed that numerous ghost names had been added to the scheme’s payroll.
A subsequent headcount conducted by the Finance Ministry uncovered up to 81,885 suspected ghost names on the NSS payroll.
Following the revelation, President Mahama has directed the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to conduct an independent probe into the matter.
