OSP probe: Ken Ofori-Atta will return to Ghana in May – Afenyo-Markin assures
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has announced that Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Minister of Finance, is set to return to Ghana in May 2025 after undergoing a medical assessment abroad.
This update follows the recent declaration from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which named Ofori-Atta as a person of interest in an ongoing investigation into corruption-related activities. The OSP has also called on the public to provide any information that could assist in locating him.
Speaking to Parliament on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Afenyo-Markin shared that Ofori-Atta's legal team has been in communication with the OSP, confirming that he will return as planned.
Afenyo-Markin further noted that Ofori-Atta is ready to cooperate fully and will be available for an in-person interrogation upon his arrival in Ghana.
Minority leader reads a letter from the former Finance Minister: “We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated February 17, 2025, we respectfully indicate that our client who is much due for his return cannot be any time before six to eight weeks of his possible surgical intervention as stated in the hospital’s letter.
“Our clients hold that taking into account surgical dates from March 20 to 21, and his recuperation period he should be able to be back into the jurisdiction between May 14 and 30, 2025. We hope you take note of this date and same can guide your office in fixing a day for the in-person of our client to your office.”
The case has drawn considerable public attention, with the OSP ramping up its efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in the country's financial governance.
