Vice President of Upper West Regional House of Chiefs files nomination for Council of State elections

Kuoru Abu Diaka Sukabe Ninia (V), Vice President of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs and a member of the National House of Chiefs has officially submitted his nomination for the position of Upper West Regional Representative to the Council of State of the Republic of Ghana.

Accompanied by Dr. Kaayi Yakubu, Kuoro Nania (V), who serves as the Paramount Chief and President of the Zini Traditional Area, presented his completed nomination forms at the Upper West Regional office of the Electoral Commission on Friday, January 31, 2025.

Well-known for his strong stance against early child marriage, the esteemed chief committed to ensuring that the diverse perspectives of the region are represented in his advisory role if elected. He pointed out the various developmental challenges the region faces and pledged to collaborate with the region’s Minister and Members of Parliament to complete ongoing projects, such as the Zini E-Block SHS, and to address the infrastructure needs at institutions like Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University and SDD-UBIDS.

With a background as a former banker and accountant for Plan International Ghana, Kuoro Nania (V) aims to partner with the tourism department, local assemblies, civil society organizations, and the people of the Upper West Region. He envisions the establishment of a bi-annual festival, led by the Regional House of Chiefs, to promote tourism in the region. The main objective of the festival would be to attract investors, create a thriving job market, encourage tolerance in diversity, and promote peace.

It’s important to note that the Electoral Commission announced on January 22, 2025, that nominations for regional representative elections to the Council of State were officially open, in accordance with Article 89(2)(c) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution. The elections are set to take place on Tuesday, February 12, 2025, across various regional capitals.
