Who Should Be Appointed as the DCE?
First, let me take this opportunity to congratulate H.E. John Dramani Mahama on his resounding victory as the President of Ghana. His return to leadership is a testament to the faith Ghanaians have in his experience, vision, and commitment to building a prosperous and inclusive nation. As we celebrate his victory, we must also focus on making decisions that will ensure the success of his administration at all levels of governance.
One critical decision that lies ahead is the appointment of District Chief Executives (DCEs). The role of a DCE is pivotal—not just as an administrator but as a representative of the government and the party at the grassroots level. For us in Kasena-Nankana West, this appointment is more than a routine exercise; it is a decision that will shape the future of our constituency and the fortunes of the NDC within our area.
President Mahama, throughout his political journey, has demonstrated the importance of rewarding loyalty and competence. His appointments have always reflected his belief in recognizing the sacrifices of those who have stood with the party, those who know the struggles of the grassroots, and those who are committed to the vision and values of the NDC.
As we deliberate on who should be appointed as the DCE, it is imperative to prioritize loyalty, competence, and connection to the grassroots. We need someone who knows the constituency, understands the daily struggles of the people, and has been a consistent part of the NDC’s activities. Appointing someone who lacks these qualities—a person who is detached from the grassroots—will be a grave mistake. It will alienate the very people who have worked tirelessly to keep the NDC strong and vibrant in the constituency.
The DCE must be someone who will distribute resources and opportunities fairly, ensuring that every loyal party member and every corner of the constituency feels included. This is not just about political rewards; it is about strengthening the NDC’s base and ensuring that our party thrives in every corner of Ghana.
If we appoint someone who is not in touch with the grassroots or who has not been actively involved in the struggles of the party, we risk shooting ourselves in the foot. Such a decision will not only weaken the party but also create disillusionment among our loyal supporters.
Let us take a cue from President Mahama’s track record of rewarding loyalty and competence. Let us ensure that the DCE for Kasena-Nankana West is a true grassroots leader—one who has stood with the party, understands our constituency, and will work tirelessly to advance the vision of the NDC and the development of our people.
This is our opportunity to consolidate the gains of the NDC in Kasena-Nankana West and beyond. Let us choose wisely, for the future of our constituency and our party depends on it.
