Afenyo-Markin commends Dr. Ato Forson's leadership in 8th Parliament
The Majority Leader of the 8th Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has praised the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, for his steadfast leadership of a dynamic and often challenging opposition caucus.
Afenyo-Markin’s commendation came during his final address to the House ahead of the dissolution of the 8th Parliament. Reflecting on their working relationship, he shared anecdotes that underscored Dr. Forson’s firmness and resolve as Minority Leader.
“Mr. Speaker, Ato Forson will talk to you nicely but will call you at 5 a.m. and say, ‘Kwamena, no deal. The political committee of our party has opposed it,’” Afenyo-Markin recounted, illustrating the determined stance the Minority often adopted on critical matters.
He acknowledged the formidable nature of the opposition, describing the challenges of negotiating with them. “Mr. Speaker, the Minority were such a tough, stubborn, and difficult group. You could never have an agreement with them because they were sneering at power, and I understand,” he remarked, recognizing the high stakes of political competition.
Despite the occasional tensions, Afenyo-Markin’s remarks conveyed a sense of mutual respect between the two leaders. His reflections highlighted the essential role played by the Minority in holding the Majority accountable and fostering rigorous debate in Parliament.
