President Dramani Mahama Sworn into Office: Congratulations and Best Wishes for a Successful Tenure Sir
Permit me to paraphrase John Dramani Mahama’s words in one of his submissions recently in relation to what seem to be crucial and demanding appointments to his administration in the coming days as the entire globe turn their attention to the man John Dramani Mahama as the newly sworn in president of Ghana.
In his usual skilful tactical delivery he said, “It is difficult to know what is in the heart and mind of a human being as there is no machine to detect what is conceived in the mind of a person, but I pray that the Lord will give me discernment…”.
The swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama as the leader of Ghana marks a significant milestone in the country’s political journey. And it also though without its own challenges has once again pushed Ghana higher on the ladder of democratic governance through the ballot on the continent of Africa. Whiles this marks a mile stone and massive win, every discerning and honest person will best smell a very huge task ahead of the new president. Whiles the victory calls for jubilation, it does raises the spec of responsibility very high.
One of the questions many people are asking has to do with whether John Dramani Mahama can go for a third term? This present work will not discuss this sensitive topic at the moment. But the caution I throw out to proponents is that, it is early days yet to let this out.
The task at hand and the most important job for John Mahama and the NDC is to prove to the Ghanaian people that, the votes that were given to them were worth it. When the mandate is tactfully delivered and reflected as convincely seen in the massive votes, it will not be the NDC to tell the Ghanaian people, that John Mahama needs a third term. With his leadership experience and a vision for national development, Ghanaians and international observers anticipate tenure filled with progressive institutional reforms, inclusive development, and a commitment to economic and social advancement where the Ghanaian youth regain hope and trust and lastly, bridging the disparities between the north and south.
Leadership and Legacy
President John Dramani Mahama’s ascension to the presidency underscores his deep political acumen and dedication to public service. A seasoned politician, he has held several key positions, including serving as Vice President and President of Ghana from 2012 to 2017 (Doe, 2020). During his previous tenure, Mahama spearheaded critical infrastructure projects, championed education reforms, and expanded healthcare accessibility, laying the groundwork for sustainable development. Though these foundations were hampered by his leaving office in 2016, the nod has turned back to him to without hesitation get his reset tools turned on and go to work.
In that, regard, with his experience and the victory given him, points to the fact that, the Ghanaian people believe in him and know he can deliver better. As a result, it is just right to have heard him mention that, people who have flooded his doors daily for appointments must be ready to roll their sleeves and go to work in service to the people of Ghana. And such a call was right on point and a testament to what John Mahama stands to offer leveraging on his past experience. Innocent and well intentioned as he is, the fear of most Ghanaians is on the people he will be working with. Do they have the good heart and good intentions as John Mahama has? These questions can only be answered now by God and for humans time will be the answer.
A call for ccountability towards Unity
As President Mahama begins his new tenure, national unity and reconciliation remain essential. The recent election period, like many others, witnessed diverse political opinions and robust debates. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized fostering unity and inclusiveness, reflecting his commitment to bridging divides and building a cohesive nation (Ampofo, 2025). By promoting dialogue and collaboration, Mahama aims to bring together stakeholders from various sectors to achieve Ghana’s developmental goals. And he has tactfully weaved the famous phrase, “my brothers and sisters into his public address which is commendable.
Whiles, some families are still mourning the loss of their loved ones, the question yet to answer is, in whose hands are the blood of these people? In my backyard of Damongo, one of such innocent young lives, who in no way will ever share in the booties of the political elite, was murdered. Little did Mukaila know that, he was not going to return to his widowed mother to say good bye nor will his family ever see him return with some corn and yams from the farm forever. Who answers to this innocent blood? Should someone not account for this loss? Should it just end like that because he is no body and has no body?
Economic Prospects and Challenges
Ghana’s economy presents both opportunities and challenges. President Mahama inherits a controversial economy and at best a confusing economy to the ordinary Ghanaian. The reason being that, the outgoing government says the economy is growing economy with strong fundamentals but the incoming government says those are false claims. The incoming government refutes the claims by saying the country faces pressing issues such as youth unemployment, inflation, and public debt (Asante & Osei, 2024). For my Sister who lives in the village of Bidima, these figures with percentages make no sense to her. All that she is interested in is that, when she goes to buy salt it should not be beyond her means because an environment has been created for her to sell her Shea-butter without stress. It is therefore refreshing that John Mahama’s administration priorities are expected to include job creation through industrialization, investment in renewable energy, and strengthening the agricultural sector as exemplified by his own farming activities.
Notably, Mahama has expressed a desire to enhance trade partnerships within Africa and globally, leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to position Ghana as a hub for commerce and innovation (Adomako, 2025). This vision aligns with his broader economic philosophy of creating sustainable wealth and opportunities for all citizens and not a knee jerk job approach as in the past.
Social Development Agenda
President Mahama’s leadership is also expected to focus on social equity and education. His track record includes initiatives such as E-blocks to enhance the expansion and effectiveness of free senior high school programs and increased support for vocational training (Kumah, 2019). These efforts are vital for empowering Ghana’s youth and ensuring that they are equipped to meet the demands of the global workforce.
In addition, his administration plans to address healthcare disparities by improving infrastructure in rural areas and enhancing access to quality medical care (Nyarko, 2024). These social interventions underscore Mahama’s belief in human capital development as a cornerstone of national progress.
International Relations
On the international stage, President Mahama’s tenure promises to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic ties. His administration is poised to play an active role in addressing regional security challenges, fostering economic partnerships, and contributing to global conversations on climate change and sustainable development (Boateng, 2025). This to some extent is already manifesting as he has already taking the initiative to visit a number of African heads of states ahead of his swearing in. moreover, Mahama seem to catch the admiration of the west as both the USA and the European union as well as Britain sending delegations to congratulate him on his victory and pledging their support for him.
International relations will be very vital in his success though with its own issues but with his experience experts believe he can play his way around internationally as he seem to have some credibility out there.
Conclusion
President John Dramani Mahama’s swearing-in represents a renewed opportunity for Ghana to achieve transformative progress under his leadership. As he embarks on this journey, Ghanaians and the global community look forward to a tenure characterized by visionary leadership, inclusivity, and tangible development outcomes. Congratulations, President Mahama, and best wishes for a successful and impactful term. And for those seeking appointment if you don’t have Ghana at heart do not come closer to appointment. Leave this innocent man alone to do his bit for the Ghanaian people. Once again congratulation Mr President, we wish you well in your new role. Long live Ghana, long live Africa.
