CPA warns ORAL team against intimidation of business owners

The Committee for Public Accountability (CPA), a public interest group, has issued a stern caution to members of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) against any actions aimed at intimidating legitimate businesses in Ghana.

Addressing the press on Thursday morning, Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwah, Executive Chairman of CPA, expressed concerns over comments made by Raymond Archer, a member of ORAL, targeting Dr. Daniel McKorley, Group CEO of McDan Company. Archer allegedly remarked that McKorley should "pray NPP stays in government forever."

Condemning Intimidation

Hon. Amankwah labeled Archer’s comments as irresponsible and harmful to entrepreneurial growth, nation-building, and Ghana’s democratic foundations.

"CPA finds it necessary to address this unacceptable conduct, which has the potency to kill entrepreneurial spirits, derail nation-building efforts, and threaten our fledgling democracy," he stated.

Hon. Amankwah clarified that Dr. Daniel McKorley is not a member of any political party, including the NPP, adding that such baseless remarks only serve to undermine confidence in Ghana’s business environment.

Promoting Entrepreneurship

The CPA Executive Chairman emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment for businesses to thrive, noting that intimidation and threats deter investment and hinder economic growth.

“We find this statement and attitude of Mr. Raymond Archer very unfortunate, uncalled for, and unwarranted, as it seeks to undermine the business community,” Hon. Amankwah asserted.

He further highlighted McKorley’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a successful entrepreneur, showcasing a documentary to demonstrate the CEO’s diligence and contributions to Ghana’s economy.

Assurance to Businesses

The CPA assured business owners of its commitment to safeguarding their legitimate operations and interests. Hon. Amankwah urged businesses to continue their activities without fear, pledging the CPA’s readiness to provide legal support where necessary.

“As a pro-democracy and good governance group, CPA will continue to promote responsible conduct, ethical leadership, and cultural integrity in Ghanaian society,” he stated.

Warning to ORAL Members

Hon. Amankwah issued a direct caution to Raymond Archer and other ORAL members, urging them to act professionally and avoid using the platform to settle personal scores.

“Using the ORAL TEAM to target Dr. Daniel McKorley or other business leaders will be fiercely resisted by CPA’s leadership,” he warned, adding that the group is closely monitoring developments and will take action to protect the business community.

He concluded by emphasizing the state’s responsibility to support and protect businesses, stating, “The business community must thrive for the collective benefit of society.”
