#Election2024: Voters now enlightened, sophisticated; no seat is safe anymore — Asante Akyem North MP-elect
Ohene Kwame Frimpong, the Member of Parliament-elect for Asante Akyem North in the Ashanti Region, has declared that the 2024 election results reflect a new era of voter enlightenment of issues in Ghana.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Frimpong, who won the seat as an independent candidate, highlighted a significant shift in the electorate’s behavior.
“Ghanaian voters are now enlightened and sophisticated. Nobody can deceive any voter,” he remarked, emphasizing that “no parliamentary seat in the country can be considered a stronghold anymore.”
He pledged to prioritize the interests of his constituents, stating that any decision to accept a position in the incoming government would depend on their approval.
“I will only accept a position from the incoming government if the people of Asante Akyem North approve of it. Every decision I make concerning the constituency will involve consultation with my people,” he affirmed.
Mr. Frimpong highlighted the importance of accountability, respect for voters, and a commitment to development.
“I will always be accountable to the people of Asante Akyem North and respect their decisions. My footprints are all over the constituency, and I have earned the support of both NPP and NDC members,” he added.
Reflecting on his motivation, the MP-elect expressed gratitude for his victory and a renewed determination to serve well.
“This victory has strengthened my resolve to serve and deliver for the people. I want to always challenge myself naturally,” he said.
Mr. Frimpong secured a decisive win in the constituency, garnering 26,926 votes. He defeated the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, who received 8,933 votes, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Kofi Asamoah, who garnered 2,469 votes.
