UG Medical Centre receives medical equipment from MedDropBox
A not-for-profit organization, MedDropBox Inc. has donated essential medical supplies to the Orthopedic Department of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
The donation was made last week at the UG Medical Centre, Legon, the third successive year of MedDropBox's kind gesture in supporting health care delivery in Ghana.
Dr. Dziwornu Kunutsor, an Orthopedic Surgeon, at the UG Medical Centre, led a team of doctors and medical staff from UGMC to receive the medical supplies.
Dr. Dziwornu expressed gratitude to MedDropBox on behalf of the Centre for the donations and promised that the center would put the medical supplies to adequate use to benefit other units.
"We are grateful to MedDropBox for the donations. Many of the items will be useful to other units, but we will sort out what is useful to us," Dr. Dziwornu expresses.
He bemoaned that the donated medical equipment is not easily accessible at the center hence the donations will equip work at the department to benefit their patients.
"We will use these items at the hospitals for the benefit of the patients who come in especially those items that are not easy to come by. Not all can afford the care and sometimes some of the things we may have to get from outside, and once we receive useful items, we will be happy to keep receiving them," he assured.
Dr. Vera Turkson, a medical doctor on the Orthopedic team was thankful to MedDropBox for the continuous support over the last three years expressing the hope for more support from the organization to the UGMC.
"We've been receiving this for the past three years and these donations have been of great use for us especially in the theatre and on the ward. I would like to thank MedDropBox very much and we hope to receive more of these in the coming years," Dr. Vera Turkson added.
The President of MedDropBox, Nana Somuah expressed his excitement about MedDropBox’s support to the hospitals in Ghana and the assistance the organisation has received from its partners in the United States (US).
He recounted MedDropBox donations to UGMC and other medical centers and the desire to receive continuous aid from the organisation.
"As a non-profit organisation, the goal is to help people who don't have the means and I am excited this is the third year in a row we are making these donations. Last year we made donations to UGMC and also to Masigan Medical Centre,’’ he mentioned.
He continued: “We spoke to the Doctors and they were very appreciative and want us to expand this."
However, Dr. Dziwornu appealed to MedDropBox to keep supporting the Centre to ensure healthcare delivery achieves its fully administered.
"We will look at their scope and suggest a list of things that will be tailored to our needs. And we will be happy to receive more of these things that will be beneficial to our patients," Dr. Dziwornu entreated.
