#Election2024: One thing ‘digital man’ Bawumia has been successful with is how he declared his defeat early – Ricketts-Hagan
Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, has shared his views on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s decision to concede defeat gracefully after the 2024 general election.
Just a day after the December 7 election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), addressed the nation and declared that his team's results indicated he had lost the Presidential polls to former President John Dramani Mahama.
According to Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, this is one area Dr. Bawumia has been “very successful” after earning the nickname the ‘digital man’.
“I knew he wouldn’t go anywhere with what he was doing,” Ricketts-Hagan said. “He has now become a digital man. One thing he has been very successful at as a digital man is declaring his own failure early. He declared his results that he had failed before Jean Mensa came [to announce them], so he has at least saved himself with his digital approach,” Ricketts-Hagan told TV3.
The Cape Coast South MP further noted that Ghanaians made a good decision by voting massively to reject Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the presidential election.
He argued that although Bawumia made good presentations on the economy, he could not translate them on the ground.
“We know the efforts that go into that level of presentation, but I did not wish him to succeed, and I knew he would not succeed. Also, I knew he didn’t have the capacity to do the job. He spoke good economics, which we can all relate to, but if economics is all about data and presentation, then everyone who has studied economics would be a great economist. The practicality of it is what matters,” Kweku Ricketts-Hagan shared.
