#Election2024: Police arrest 12 suspects over looting, vandalism across the country

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a total of 12 suspects for their alleged involvement in a series of looting and vandalism incidents in parts of the country.

Addressing a press briefing at the National Election Security Task Force Press Centre, ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi, Director of the Ghana Police Service Public Affairs Directorate, disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects had attacked and damaged state properties, including the Electoral Commission office in Damongo, Savannah Region.

“The suspects attacked and damaged state properties, including the Electoral Commission office in Damongo, Savannah Region,” she stated.

ACP Akrofi further explained that the suspects vandalized coalition centres and the residences of district chief executives in several areas.

“Additionally, they broke into the school feeding project warehouse in Tamale and made away with foodstuff and other items,” she added.

She emphasised the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to book.

“Footage of the attacks, vandalism, and looting has been obtained and is being reviewed by investigators. We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for these acts are held accountable,” ACP Akrofi assured.

The police have urged the public to remain calm as officers have been deployed to key locations, and patrols have been intensified to maintain law and order.

“We urge the general public to remain calm as police officers have been deployed to key locations with intensified patrols to maintain law and order,” she reiterated.

The Ghana Police Service assured the public of its dedication to safeguarding lives and property while holding those responsible for these criminal acts accountable.
