GOIL bids farewell to Group CEO Kwame Osei Prempeh
GOIL PLC has bid farewell to its Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh, who concluded his five-and-a-half-year tenure.
At an annual thanksgiving service held in Accra and attended by Board members, staff, dealers, transporters, and representatives from regulatory agencies, Mr. Osei-Prempeh was commended for the transformative impact he had on the company.
In a testimonial, Mr. Reginald Daniel Laryea, GOIL’s Board Chairman, praised Mr. Osei-Prempeh’s leadership during a period of steady growth and expansion, despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. "Under Mr. Osei-Prempeh's leadership, GOIL has remained a crucial linchpin in the Oil Marketing sector and is relied on by many state-owned institutions, agencies, and other quasi-government departments," he noted.
Among Mr. Osei-Prempeh’s achievements was the completion of a multi-million-dollar Bitumen plant, a joint venture with SMB of La Côte d’Ivoire, designed to supply bitumen to road contractors. "The new bitumen plant is to help expand the nation’s road network," Mr. Laryea said. He also highlighted the establishment of GOIL Upstream Limited and the signing of a Joint Operating Agreement with Planet One Oil and Gas Limited for operations in the Deepwater Cape Three Points Block as another major success during his tenure.
In his farewell speech, Mr. Osei-Prempeh expressed gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve Ghana through GOIL. “My years of service at GOIL for almost five and a half years have been a ‘wonderful experience, better and challenging as well,” he said.
Reflecting on his time in office, he explained that when he assumed the role of Group CEO and Managing Director, GOIL had only one major subsidiary, GOEnergy. "For the past five years, GOIL has seen an expansion in the setting up of GoBitumen and GOIL Upstream,” he stated. He also noted the development of the GOIL Cylinder Recirculation Model, which resulted in the construction of two LPG filling plants in Tema and Kumasi worth millions of dollars.
Mr. Osei-Prempeh acknowledged the efforts of his predecessor, Mr. Patrick Kwame Akorli, who initiated the commissioning of five modern auto gas stations. He shared that GOIL expanded from 300 outlets in 2019 to 450 outlets, including 160 company-owned stations.
He expressed appreciation to the Boards he worked with, led by Mr. Kwamena Bartels and Mr. Reginald Laryea, and extended gratitude to the Boards of GOIL’s subsidiaries, particularly GO Energy, chaired by Mr. Akorli. He also thanked GOIL’s management and staff for their cooperation, hard work, and dedication.
The Thanksgiving Service featured performances by Uncle Ato, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, and GOIL’s in-house choir, GOILY Voices. Distinguished church leaders, including Bishop Yaw Owusu Ansah, Prophet Christopher Yaw Annor, and Prophet Atsu Manasseh, were present. Tributes, citations, and presentations were offered to Mr. Osei-Prempeh by GOIL PLC, the GOIL Fellowship, the Association of Shareholders, and COPEC, among others.
